TAOS, NEW MEXICO

For Horses and People

Star and Buck, rescue horsesThe Equine Spirit Sanctuary was the vision of several people who saw the need for an equine rescue in northern New Mexico. We also realized the value of offering a sanctuary for people. We have experienced the healing qualities of being around horses and the unique therapies - physical, emotional and spiritual - that horses provide.

Volunteers may assist with the day to day care of the horses, under a carefully supervised program in which they learn how to properly care for horses and learn new skills in horse handling.

Often the horse becomes both teacher and healer.

The Objectives and Purposes of  ESS:

Dustee, lesson horse Provide a sanctuary for horses that is also a place for people to spend time with or assist with the care of the horses, in a manner that promotes healing.

• Offer programs for people of all ages to learn about basic horse care and safety in handling horses, and promote responsible horse ownership.

• Provide opportunities for healing and therapy with horses for children and adults who have had abusive relationships or situations; provide other physical, mental and spiritual therapy programs for people based on interactions with horses.
